This was the 28th song recorded for the album. The last two albums start with very aggressive songs to hook people in, so I thought it would be a nice change of pace to have a more calm beginning to this one. I think this song is about how we’re all kind of stuck in our own worlds, our own fantasies, and how hard it is to really do anything to change that. When I got the chords and first line for it, I remember feeling very strongly that it was a special and poetic synthesis of my life at the time. It also introduces the “world” of the album that you’re about to enter, and this is the first song in it.
